About The Chef

Antonia Cenere Baronessa ChefAntonia Cenere came to the United States from the region of Puglia, Italy – which sits at the bottom of Italy’s heel. She is the owner and self-taught chef who started her career in the restaurant business as a salad girl and worked her way up to Sous Chef at Tony’s Italian Restaurant in Washington, DC.

She eventually became head chef of Maria Rosa Italian Restaurant in Bethesda, MD. Antonia opened her first restaurant Antonia’s Trattoria in Wheaton, MD. With over three decades of experience in Italian cuisine, Antonia has created many recipes and enjoys cooking many of her family favorites.

Antonia welcomes all diners to Baronessa as if they were family. She wanted to conjure the impression of Italy so she commissioned Clarksburg, MD artist Edna Searles to adorn one of the walls of Baronessa with colorful murals depicting some of the great cities of Italy. For Antonia, it’s like going home to Italy every day when she enters Baronessa.
